FrameUp

Adaptable solar scaffolding for listed roofs

As part of the Sustainable Crossborder Solutions Hackathon, the team developed Frame Up - a lightweight, modular metal scaffolding system that seamlessly integrates solar modules into historic roof landscapes without compromising their structural substance or visual character. Each frame is individually adapted to the geometry and architectural features of the roof in question.

Frame Up goes beyond pure functionality: the system enables aesthetic adaptation - for example, by reproducing traditional tile patterns in contrasting colors or by matching the color of existing roof surfaces. Deliberate color contrasts are also possible in order to make roofs visible as striking urban accents - especially in cross-border regions such as the German-Polish-Czech border triangle.

The first 3D models and visualizations were created to illustrate how renewable energies can be combined with the architectural heritage. The project stands for "solar equity " - the principle that residents of listed city centers can also actively participate in the energy transition and become a visible part of a sustainable urban future.
