Energy cabinet

  • 1 What is the Energy Technology Cabinet?

The Energy Technology Cabinet combines two areas:

    • the fuel cell experimental area and
    • the reactor simulator with museum exhibits for conveying career profiles and thus for study and career orientation as well as the training of students with a focus on energy technology
  • 2 What is taught in the lab?

The ETK offers practical courses for pupils from grade 8 onwards with internships, experiments and lectures on energy technology. The practical courses cover the field of renewable energy technology with a focus on fuel cell technology. Nuclear energy technology is demonstrated using a reactor simulator. Student training includes internships in the same subject areas, but at an academic level.

  • 3. how does the internship fit in with the degree course?

The ETK is mainly involved in the training of students on the Energy and Environmental Technology course. In this context, practical training is carried out at the experimental stations with solar module, electrolyser and fuel cell as well as at the reactor simulator, where the operating and fault behavior of a nuclear reactor can be demonstrated.

  • 4 How does the internship work?

Students prepare for the respective experiment using the practical instructions provided. The work placement is supervised by specialist staff and is concluded with a report.

The practicals for pupils are usually spread over the morning and last around three hours. A handout is used for independent preparation of the experiments, including supervision by specialist staff.

  • 5. what special equipment does the laboratory have?
    • 10 fuel cell test chambers
    • 2 fuel cell test stands
    • Reactor simulator with control panel (formerly Zittau teaching and research reactor ZLFR)
    • Model of a pressurized water reactor
    • Model of a saturated steam turbine in the lecture hall
    • Exhibits of nuclear reactor internals
    • Exhibits of radiation measurement technology
    • Seminar room with 2x10 seats and multimedia presentation technology (together with the Radon Information Center)
    • Display boards on energy technology
